Orthodontics in Richmond

Early interception is an important part of keeping your child’s teeth straight, strong and healthy. At Kiddie Cavity Care & Orthodontics, we are proud to offer comprehensive orthodontic treatment to our patients in Richmond. Depending on your child’s case, we offer traditional braces, Invisalign, space maintainers, and Phase One orthodontics.

Although not an orthodontist, our dentist Dr. Altmon is an expert in early interceptive care. He and our knowledgeable team will guide you and your child through a gentle, personalized treatment plan to ensure the best results. If your child’s situation requires more advanced orthodontic treatment, we will provide a referral to a recommended orthodontist.

Our pediatric orthodontic services include:

  • Traditional Braces: Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to guide your child’s teeth into the desired alignment. The brackets are attached to your child’s teeth with dental cement and used to anchor the wires, which apply pressure to gently move the teeth. Traditional braces are typically worn for two to three years, depending on your child’s case and the positions of their teeth before treatment.
  • Invisalign: Invisalign invisible aligners use custom-made clear plastic trays to shift your child’s teeth. The removable trays must be worn for 22 hours per day for the best results and can be taken out during meals and to brush and floss. Because they are virtually invisible, Invisalign aligners are a discreet alternative to metal braces. They are perfect for teens and older children with minimal crowding or misalignment who may experience anxiety over the look of traditional braces.
  • Retainers: Once your child finishes orthodontic treatment, we recommend a custom-fitted retainer. Retainers help keep your child’s teeth and bite in the correct new alignment.
  • Space Maintainers: If your child has lost a baby tooth prematurely, we may recommend a space maintainer. Space maintainers are used to hold a space for the permanent tooth so that it can come in normally. We will attach a band to the teeth on either side of the gap and extend a wire across the open space to keep the other teeth from shifting into the gap.
  • Phase One Orthodontics: This form of orthodontic treatment is used between the ages of six and nine to correct issues in your child’s jaw growth or tooth development. We may recommend phase one orthodontics if your child has cleft lip and palate, misaligned baby teeth and other issues that can affect your child’s bite. Phase one orthodontic treatments can include headgear, special retainers, braces, oral appliances and other therapies as recommended.

What’s the difference between Invisalign and braces?

While Invisalign offers many of the same benefits as traditional braces, this virtually invisible treatment method which uses clear aligners is preferred by many teens. We will perform a thorough exam to assess your child’s case and help you choose the best treatment option based on their needs.

What do braces cost?

Every case is unique, and your child’s treatment costs will vary depending on their needs. Our office will provide a complete review of all fees before your child’s treatment so you can make financial arrangements as necessary. For your convenience, we accept CareCredit, many PPO insurances, and VA Medicaid. We will work with you and your family to ensure your child receives excellent care.

So good with kids and honest... my favorite part is how they take x-rays... no film like back in the day... the machine goes around the child's head. I am loving this place!
