Pediatric Dental Checkups in Richmond

Having healthy teeth is not only important to your child’s smile but their overall physical well-being. At Kiddie Cavity Care & Orthodontics, we want to ensure your child receives the dental care they need at all stages of their development. Bring your child to your local pediatric dental office for their next regular checkup.

You should make your child’s first dentist appointment when their baby teeth erupt, or around their first birthday. Then our dentist recommends bringing your child in for regular dental checkups every six months. At your child’s next checkup, here is what you can expect:

  • Full Examination: We do more than just check your child’s teeth for cavities. Our team will thoroughly examine your child’s mouth and assess their changing dental health needs as they age. After the exam, our dentist will discuss any recommendations for further treatment such as fillings, orthodontics, space maintainers or sealants.
  • Digital X-rays: Our office offers bitewing radiographs and panoramic radiographs to our patients to get a complete picture of their overall oral health. We use bitewings to determine the health of the teeth and bone, checking for issues such as cavities and unusually-growing teeth. A panoramic is taken every three to five years to check for missing teeth, extra teeth and other issues beneath the gum line.
  • Oral Cancer Screening: Early detection is critical to treating oral cancer. During our gentle screening process, we will check your child’s mouth, tongue, cheeks, the roof of their mouth and the back of their throat for any signs of cancer. We will also check your child’s jaw and neck for any abnormalities.
  • Professional Cleaning: Our team will thoroughly clean your child’s teeth to remove any plaque (bacteria) and calculus (hard plaque). We will also apply a topical fluoride treatment to your child’s teeth to make them stronger and more resistant to cavities.

During your child’s checkup, we will provide you and your child with dental hygiene instructions to help maintain good oral health at home. This includes hands-on demonstrations to help your child learn how to properly hold and use a toothbrush, as well as tips on other preventive measures so your child will feel confident they are taking good care of their teeth.

So good with kids and honest... my favorite part is how they take x-rays... no film like back in the day... the machine goes around the child's head. I am loving this place!
